Projects of Sunrise Rotary

Throughout the history of this club Sunrise Rotarians have participated in activities as diverse as Habitat for Humanity;  Baton Rouge Green; the Reindeer Run; Rotary Youth Leadership Camp;  LSU Hilltop’s annual plant fest.

Two projects have been permanently adopted by Sunrise Rotary – Habitat for Humanity and GoodFellows / Good Samaritans, in which Sunrise Rotarians raise funds and stuff sacks with clothes, toys and books to help provide Christmas for approximately 2500 children in Baton Rouge each year.

In 2008 Sunrise Rotary helped raise more than $42,000 for The Arc Baton Rouge at its first ARC Baton Rouge Plane Pull held at Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport. Other hands-on community support is provided to the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank, LSU’s International Hospitality Foundation, Volunteers in Public Schools, and Junior Achievement of Baton Rouge.

Since 1992 Outstanding Service Awards have been presented annually to a member of the Baton Rouge Police Department, Baton Rouge Fire Department, Baton Rouge Emergency Medical Service, East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Department, Baton Rouge Constable’s Office, Louisiana State Police, and Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries who has exhibited exemplary service in the past year.

Sunrise Rotary takes an active part each year in a Group Study Exchange that involves business men and women from another country coming to visit clubs that are part of Rotary District 6200. The visitors stay in the homes of Sunrise Rotarians and are hosted in Baton Rouge for a week of their month-long tour. Later a group from Louisiana are guests of these visiting Rotarians.

The Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarship Program has resulted each year in several students sponsored by Sunrise Rotary spending a year studying abroad with all expenses paid by the Rotary International Foundation and Rotary District 6200.

In 1993-1994, Sunrise Rotary Club members chartered a Rotaract Club on the LSU campus in Baton Rouge. In 2014-2015, Sunrise Rotary chartered an Interact Club at The Dunham School in Baton Rouge. Sunrise Rotary also participates in the Rotary Youth Exchange program, including short-term and long-term exchanges of students within the geographical area of our club and students sponsored by a club from another country.

Sunrise Rotarians have taken leadership roles in the chartering of two Rotary Clubs in District 6200.
